Back door fitting

The back door of the new hood fits well and now home for final trim to size and the velcro tabs sewn in. Had a lovely evening cooking and entertaining a friend and the new hood and curtain acted like a little extra room with harbour veiw cosy and warm as the cabin. So pleased its worked out.

Absolutely love our new spray hood! It fits so well. And looks like its always been there.

Been a lot of work

It should be a real asset to dragonfly, with a zip up back wall it will be a fab cosy look out spot in foil weather on long passages. So excited to be part of these future passages but feels frustrating having to wait!

Making our own bespoke spray hood and frame! Lot of work, but getting on top of it now just hope it fits!!!!!!

Spray hood fabrication

10 mm closed cell foam and breather layer.

The fore peak insulation final touches. Under cushions foam and breather mat installed. Look forward to testing this with a night aboard asap. Made to measure sheets would be lovely, but they will have to weight.

Spray hood templates made

Templates made. It could be made higher than expected there was more room than i measured. The winches should be easy to use too and you can see through it from helm it is high enough and roof not at eye level. The side panels not shown come back to the bulk head almost and look good and will give cover when sitting in cock pit. The rear curtain i did not measure up will have to do that after i have fitted the main thing, but that should make a better fit.

Extra ordinary

Well the next job is the spray hood! Having been given a quote for the design and custom production of a new one from sailmaker of £2.5k pluss. I am doing it myself. It just so happens that we have a roller bender and an industrial sewing machine, and now i have drawn up a plan for the bent hoops, steel should arrive today, i can bend and fabricate the frame tomorow and fit and make the canopy templates next there is some light winds at the boat. Non stop. I would have been happy to pay some one but they are all booked out with storm damage and unable to say they could do it before we leave for summer cruise!
